International tourists and expats need not worry as there are an assortment of international food outlets and restaurants to remind them of home. Locals often patronise them for a change in diet . . . actually Penangites are game to eat anything, anywhere. Most of the international restaurants are pricer compared to local pricing standards.

JAPANESE FOOD
The vogue food of the moment
for business meals and such. Partly due to the increasing presence of Japanese businessmen in this region.

If you don’t like it raw, go for the Teppanyaki and nothing else. Try these Japanese restaurants: Teppan-Yaki in Tajung Tokong, Ichiban Restaurant at The Gurney, Kirishima Japanese Restaurant at Cititel, Waka at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Kampaci at Hotel Equatorial..

See some of the other notable western restaurants: Continental Restaurant off Swatow Lane - pastries, pizza and spaghetti; The Ship steakhouse in Batu Ferringghi and Seri Bahari Road in Georgetown;Eden’s Adam & Eve in Hutton Lane.

German Wunderbar in Pulau Tikus is the only place we know that offers German food. Patrons can adjourn to the X Pub for a drink and merry making after dinner.

THAI
Super spicy stuff with lots of kick. Highly explosive fare recommended for spice lovers.

See the following for Tom Yam and other Thai flavours: Yellow Light in Mt. Erskine; Road Spices in Cantoment Road;
Sawadee in Sri Bahari Road; Coca Restaurant at Island Plaza (Tanjong Tokong) for delicious Thai Steamboat.
